Privacy Policy
Effective: February 24, 2026 ยท Last updated: February 24, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Downfor ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the DownforSheets Google Sheets add-on and the DownforSheets website (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
A. Data accessed by the add-on
- Spreadsheet data: Cell values, formulas, and headers from the currently open spreadsheet
only, using the
spreadsheets.currentonlyOAuth scope. - Email address: When you enable auto monitoring, we access your email address via the
userinfo.emailscope to send health report notifications. - Usage analytics: We use Microsoft Clarity to collect anonymized usage data within the add-on sidebar, including clicks, scrolls, mouse movements, and session replays.
B. Data collected on the website
- Microsoft Clarity analytics: Anonymized session recordings, heatmaps, click tracking, device and browser information, and pages visited.
- Server logs: Standard web server logs, which may include your IP address, browser type, and timestamps.
C. What we do NOT collect
- We do not access other spreadsheets, Google Drive files, or any other Google services.
- We do not collect names, billing information, or account details beyond your email address (when auto monitoring is enabled).
3. How We Use Information
- Spreadsheet data: To detect data quality issues (missing formulas, formula inconsistencies, duplicates, mixed types, and header changes), calculate health scores, and generate reports.
- Email address: To send health report notifications when auto monitoring is enabled.
- Clarity data (add-on sidebar): To understand how users interact with the sidebar interface and improve the add-on experience.
- Clarity data (website): To understand visitor behavior and optimize page layout and content.
4. Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity on both the DownforSheets website and within the add-on sidebar to understand how users interact with our Service.
- Clarity may record clicks, scrolls, mouse movements, and page interactions.
- On the website, Clarity uses cookies and similar tracking technologies. Within the add-on sidebar, Clarity uses its JavaScript tracking library.
- Session recordings are anonymized. Clarity does not capture keystrokes in password fields or sensitive form inputs.
- Clarity data is processed by Microsoft and is subject to Microsoft's Privacy Statement.
- You can learn more about Clarity's data practices and opt out of tracking at Microsoft's Clarity documentation.
5. Data Storage & Retention
- Add-on data: Header baselines and scan reports are stored in Google Sheets DocumentProperties, scoped to each individual document. This data lives entirely within Google's infrastructure and persists until the spreadsheet owner clears it or deletes the spreadsheet.
- Clarity data: Stored on Microsoft's servers under their retention policies (typically 30 days for session recordings). We do not control Microsoft's retention schedule.
- We do not operate our own servers, databases, or cloud storage for user data.
6. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.
- Microsoft Clarity receives anonymized usage data from both the website and the add-on sidebar as described in Section 4. Microsoft may use this data in accordance with their own privacy policy.
- Google processes your spreadsheet data and email as part of the Google Apps Script runtime. This processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect our legal rights.
No other third parties receive any of your data.
7. Email Communications
When you enable auto monitoring, the add-on sends health report emails using your own Google account via the Apps Script mail service. These emails are sent from your account, not from Downfor's servers.
Downfor does not receive, read, or store these emails.
You can disable email reports at any time via DownforSheets > Monitoring > Disable Auto Monitoring.
8. Your Rights & Choices
- Uninstall: You can uninstall the add-on at any time through the Google Workspace Marketplace to revoke all access.
- Clear stored data: Document-scoped data (header baselines and scan reports) can be cleared by the spreadsheet owner.
- Opt out of Clarity: You can opt out of Microsoft Clarity tracking via Microsoft's opt-out mechanism.
- Data requests: You may request information about your data by contacting us at the email address below.
- EU/EEA users: Microsoft Clarity data may be processed outside your region by Microsoft. You may exercise your rights under GDPR by contacting us.
9. Children's Privacy
DownforSheets is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted on this page. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
